The Yale men’s ice hockey season came to a screeching halt in Bridgeport. The Bulldogs were beaten 5-3 by the University of Minnesota-Duluth, thus ending what many thought could be Yale’s shot a national championship. The loss marks the second year in a row that the Bulldogs have fallen in the regional finals.

Other news and notes from Connecticut natives playing in the college ranks:

Boston College forward Cam Atkinson (Greenwich, Avon Old Farms) has signed an entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Atkinson was selected by Columbus in the sixth round (157th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Wallingford native Lee Moffie (Lyman Hall, Avon Old Farms) scored the game-winning goal for the University of Michigan as the Wolverines defeated Colorado College 2-1 in the men’s West Regionals.

Joe Pereira (West Haven, South Kent) has signed to an amateur tryout with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL.

UMass forward Michael Pereira (Notre Dame-West Haven/South Kent/Avon Old Farms) was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. Pereira finished third on the Minutemen in scoring with a 12-13-25 line in 34 games. He will be joined in Amherst next season by another nutmeg native, as it was announced earlier this month that Wallingford’s Mike Busillo (Sheehan High School, Hartford Junior Wolfpack) had committed to UMass for this fall.
