ADDITIONAL CONNECTICUT HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY NEWS:

  • According to the CIAC, Windsor/Avon/Farmington Co-op has moved up to division 1 for the 2011-2012 season. Seems strange that a team is allowed to switch divisions in-season, but if they believe they can compete, more power to them. The question for the CIAC becomes: Sixteen teams qualified for states last year from division 1, while only ten teams qualified in division 2 (not counting the Branford DQ). Why move up a team like Windsor/Avon/Farmington now, that most likely would have had no problem making the tournament in D2? Doesn’t make a lot of sense, but maybe there are other factors at play here.
  • Woodstock Academy, originally scheduled to play 11 games this season as a division 3 varsity program, was forced to cancel those plans due to low numbers. Their plan moving forward is to schedule some JV games this season, in the hope that they can move to full varsity status for 2012-13.
