This has really nothing to do with Connecticut hockey, but we’re posting this anyway because:
- Goalie fights are like Haley’s Comet: they don’t come by all that often, but when they do, everyone stops to watch.
- This is actually the second NHL goalie fight in the last week!
The “fight” itself was pretty anticlimactic, but hey, they can’t all be winners like Brent Johnson vs. Rick DiPietro.
RELATED NOTE: As a result of his fight with Johnson, Rick DiPietro is out 4-6 weeks with broken facial bones, leaving the Islanders with a serious goaltender shortage. To replace DiPietro and Kevin Poulin, who injured himself in warm-ups on Tuesday, the Islanders have called up Mikko Koskinen and Joel Martin from the Sound Tigers.
The Islanders also acquired former Hartford Wolfpack keeper Al Montoya from the Phoenix Coyotes to help shore up their goaltending situation.
